Chemical studies on rutherfordium (Rf) at JAERI
2005
SummaryChemical studies on element 104, rutherfordium (Rf), at JAERI (Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute) are reviewed. The transactinide nuclide261Rf has been produced in the reaction248Cm(18O, 5n) at the JAERI tandem accelerator with the production cross section of about 13 nb. On-line anion-exchange experiments on Rf together with the lighter homologues, group-4 elements Zr and Hf, in acidic solutions have been conducted with a rapid ion-exchange separation apparatus. From the systematic study of the anion-exchange behavior of Rf, it has been found that the properties of Rf in HCl and HNO3solutions are quite similar to those of Zr and Hf, definitely confirming that Rf is a member of …

Energy loss and straggling of MeV Si ions in gases
2017
We present measurements of energy loss and straggling of Si ions in gases. An energy range from 0.5 to 12 MeV/u was covered using the 6 MV EN tandem accelerator at ETH Zurich, Switzerland, and the K130 cyclotron accelerator facility at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. Our energy-loss data compare well with calculation based on the SRIM and PASS code. The new straggling measurements support a pronounced peak in He gas at around 4 MeV/u predicted by recent theoretical calculations. The straggling curve structure in the other gases (N2, Ne, Ar, Kr) is relatively flat in the covered energy range. Although there is a general agreement between the straggling data and the theoretical calculat…
Half-life ofTi44
1983
The half-life of $^{44}\mathrm{Ti}$ has been measured to be ${T}_{\frac{1}{2}}=54.2\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}2.1$ yr, somewhat higher than previously published values of 46.4\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1.7 and 48.2\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.9 yr. The present value was obtained from the specific activity and the radioisotope concentration of several Ti${\mathrm{O}}_{2}$ samples, each spiked with a $^{44}\mathrm{Ti}$ activity of about 1.2 \ensuremath{\mu}Ci. The specific activity was measured via the 1157 keV $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ line from the decay of the $^{44}\mathrm{Sc}$ daughter. $^{44}\mathrm{Ti}$/Ti concentrations were measured with the Argonne FN tandem accelerator in conjunctio…
